My Top Places to Visit in June

June is generally the kick-off of the holiday season for a lot of people. It’s the perfect time to get away for those families with younger children, or those not too tied to school holidays. Temperatures are starting to rise, resorts and restaurants are now open for business and the holiday season is in full swing, but the beaches and hotels aren’t yet too crowded. If you’re not a fan of the super-hot temperatures of summer, it can be a great time for exploring a new destination or getting a city break booked. With that in mind, here are my five top places to visit in June.

My top places to visit in June

Corfu

First on my list of top places to visit in June is Corfu. Anybody who has followed me for a while will know Corfu is my favourite Greek Island. It’s the one I’ve visited the most and the island I know most about. June is a great time to visit the island as it’s not yet too busy so it’s easy to explore the island and make the most of the different resorts and beaches on offer. Of course, you can’t visit Corfu without taking a trip to the Old Town. You could easily spend hours wandering through the cobbled streets, exploring local boutiques and cafes, and visiting the old fort.

Away from the resorts and Old Town, there is so much on the island to take in whatever your interests. For amazing swimming and snorkelling, the resort of Paleokastritsa on the West Coast is a must visit. The North East coast is full of gorgeous bays and tavernas which you could spend a full day exploring via boat. There’s also the island’s aquarium, waterparks, olive oil factories and breweries to visit.

Corfu has a huge range of accommodation options for any family setup or budget. From a small and friendly family-run hotel or apartments to super luxury 5-star hotels making the most of the local beaches and scenery. Many of the hotels are close to resorts so you can make the most of the local bars and tavernas, taking advantage of having Greek food on tap! Right, I’m off to book a flight there right now!

Mouse Island, Corfu. Destination one on my list of top places to visit in June

Croatia

Croatia has grown in popularity as a holiday destination over the last few years. It’s gone from being considered a cheaper, quieter alternative to Italy to one of the most requested destinations. With around 1700km of coastline and 1000 islands, Croatia is a hugely diverse holiday destination. It has one of the biggest wetlands in Europe, home to nearly 300 species of birds, around 40 species of fish and larger animals such as deer and wild boar. You can take a guided tour or boat ride to take it all in. A brilliant option for a family day trip.

With average high temperatures of 27C, June is a great time to visit if you’re seeking some sunshine. Hire a boat and sail along the Dalmatian Coast to find some of the tucked-away beaches and coves to spend some time relaxing on the golden sands. Take a trip to the island of Hvar, known for its yacht-filled harbours, cobblestone streets and wineries. It’s also the perfect temperature to head to a city such as Dubrovnik or Zagreb for history and culture. Dubrovnik offers walking or kayak tours taking in the main sights from the Game of Thrones series. Fans of the show flock there to see sights. There’s also Split, Croatia’s second-largest city. The city was built around the remains of a Roman emperor’s retirement palace.

June marks the start of festival season so there will be plenty of concerts, theatre performances and art to take in if you want to explore the more cultural side of the region. The Hideout Festival and the Summer Salsa Festival are two of the main festivals which attract visitors. Although many people flock to these festivals, it is still possible to find a quiet stretch of coastline or head to one of the cities.

Iconic Croatia

Bali

Next on my list of top places to visit in June is Bali. If you’re looking for something more long-haul, Bali is a destination that you can visit at almost any time of the year. June is much calmer tourist-wise than the rest of the summer months. Combined with lovely temperatures and lower hotel rates, it’s a great time to get to Bali.

The warm and sunny weather in June makes it the perfect time to explore some of Bali’s beautiful beaches in Kuta and Seminyak. You can spend your days relaxing, swimming and surfing. If you fancy something a little more active, then it’s also a great time of year to take advantage of hiking through the trails of Ubud or exploring the waterfalls in the region. You can also try white water rafting, cycling tours and diving. If you’re travelling as a family, the area of Sanur has gorgeous beaches with affordable resorts. If you’re a family looking for something a little more upscale, Jimbaran is a good option.

The good thing about Bali is the range of resorts and experiences it offers. Whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple or family, and whatever your interests, you’ll find an area which matches your requirements. Another option is to take a trip to the nearby island of Lombok known for its jungles and volcanic calderas. It also has plenty of pristine white sand beaches perfect for swimming, snorkelling and surfing. If diving is your thing, the nearby Gili Islands have over 25 dive sites surrounding them. They have some amazing coral reefs.

Bali - third on my top places to visit in June list

Menorca

Menorca is the quietest and most chilled out of the Balearic Islands. If you’re looking for a week of relaxing and recharging then this could be a great option. Especially as temperatures hit an average of 26C with an average of 12 hours of sunshine per day. The island features lots of white-sand beaches and whitewashed buildings which look stunning in the early summer sunshine. Menorca has an amazing food scene, so is the perfect destination if you love trying traditional dishes, and you love your seafood. June is a great time to enjoy leisurely lunches in the warm sunshine without the crowds of summer.

The island is perfect for those looking for walking and cycling holidays. Many of hiking and biking routes and paths will be lined with beautiful wildflowers in June. UNESCO designated the island a biosphere in 1993. This means extra protections are in place to preserve the beauty of the island. Take on the challenge of hiking up Monte Toro, following the island’s spiritual path and taking in amazing views. The island is small, just 30 miles wide, so hiring a car can get you to most of the parts of the island in around an hour.

If you’re visiting the island in June, the Fiesta Sant Joan is one of the most iconic events. Elegantly dressed riders and their horse put on a show in the city of Ciutadella to celebrate. There are so many amazing hotels in Menorca with something for all tastes and budgets. There are some amazing family hotels in Menorca, but also plenty of smaller properties and luxury hotels for those who love a bit of luxury on their holidays. With flights from most UK airports, and generally daytime flights, it’s also really accessible.

A beautiful Menorcan village

Copenhagen

Finally, on my list of top places to visit in June, there had to be a city break. Copenhagen regularly pops up as one of the best cities to visit at this time of year. Average temperatures in Copenhagen in June are around 20C which is a great temperature for exploring the city, strolling along the iconic waterfront and enjoying a coffee by the sea. The parks and gardens are in bloom and look beautiful so are perfect for enjoying a picnic. Boat tours are another great way to see the city from a new perspective.

Copenhagen is a seriously cool city. Visiting during the warmer months means you get to enjoy the colourful building shining in the sunshine, perfect for those Instagram shots. Food is super important to the city so if you’re a bit of a foodie then this is the destination for you. Ranging from Michelin quality restaurants to low-key street food, and coffee and pastries, there’s something for every taste. There are also many spots where you can while away some time people watching with an ice-cold beer in hand.

If shopping is your thing, then you’ll be spoilt for choice. There’s a huge range of independent boutiques selling everything from designer homeware to organic beauty, and clothing. People living in Copenhagen are also very green-minded so there are a lot of second-hand shops. If you’re travelling with kids, then you have to visit Tivoli World. It’s the World’s second oldest amusement park which features the famous bronze statue of the Little Mermaid. If you fancy experiencing something different, Malmo is Sweden is just a short 20-minute boat trip away. Ideal for an afternoon trip, or to combine the two cities in a multi-centre break.

Copenhagen - my final destination on my list of top places to visit in June

Top Places to Visit in June Round-up

What do you think of my top places to visit in June? Of course, there are many more destinations just made for June. Think the Amalfi Coast, Provence, Nashville if you’re a country music fan, New York (amazing in June for outdoor dining and drinking but that’s already featured a couple of times on these lists), Madrid and many more. It’s a great time to get away and relax before the crowds of summer, and school holidays, arrive. It’s also a great chance to explore destinations a bit more fully without the fiery temperatures of the main summer season.
